Dear Friends:

I'm late getting this out, however, you probably won't even realize it. I started to write and I realized that I have received more letters and cards than I realized and I have my work cut out for me!

We started off the New Year with a block party which was a great success. My husband, Danny, is now a finance director at Palm Beach Auto Mall in West Palm Beach. Danny had a funny experience this year when he accidentally shaved off part of his beard. He went to trim his beard with his electric shaver and before he realized that the guard was off the shaver he had already shaved a big part of his beard and had to shave the rest off as well! He hasn't tried to regrow the beard yet. The worse part of it was that I didn't notice it was off until he said something about it later. We went to the Miami Grand Prix and rode the TriRail (South Florida's new commuter train) to Miami to see it. That was a fun experience. Miami isn't that far but the train made it quicker and we didn't have to fight traffic. On Valentine's Day my parents were down visiting us - Allison had her boys dedicated in her church and then we all drove down to Homestead to look at how it has come along since the Hurricane. It is really still a mess down there. We tried to get on the base but were turned away at the gate. In May we went to our timeshare in Vero Beach, Florida and also went to Universal Studios. That place is great. If you get down to Orlando and do the Disney thing, you need to go to Universal or MGM too.

My son, Kelly (10), was one of the safety patrols that got stranded in Washington DC in March during the "Great Storm of >93". The children were well cared for although very cold even though we had prepared them for the worst - lots of the kids "lost" their warm hats, mittens, etc. They spent 30 hours on the train returning from DC and their return trip was delayed a day. We were beside ourselves during that train ride because Am Track could not give us any information. But they did return home with lots of stories and Kelly also came back with 102 degree fever and ended up with bronchitis for weeks. But he will remember this for the rest of his life. Kelly also ended his 5th grade year as the Student Council President and will begin his middle school career this fall. The new middle school is being built right down the street from us, however, it will not be ready to occupy until next fall so he will have to attend the old school for one year. He was also on the All Stars team in little league baseball this year and continues to take Karate.
Allison (24) is working in my law office now as a receptionist. She's working part time in the mornings until 2:00 then another girl comes in. It has worked out good for her and she found a good place for the boys. Cole "Eric the Red" will be one in August (our little Hurricane Baby!) and Stevie turned 3 in February. They continue to grow and learn things every day. The red hair gene from my mom's side of the family has finally caught up with Cole. I think it's the real thing and it isn't going to change.

Mark and Kyle left the antique store and rented a warehouse and continue to refinish and repair furniture. They are doing well and are really busy. They work so hard and are such good boys or I should say men now - they are 23. It is so hard to believe so much time has passed.

Mom and Dad continue to be blessed with good health - aside from heart problems that seem to be under control at this time. We are hoping that they will be able to join us for another visit in July. Kelly will turn 11 and I have a birthday in July and Danny has Marlin's tickets. I think the Marlin game will take priority. Also this year is -a big one for Mom and Dad as they will celebrate their 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY on December 1st.

Surprising things will be happening during the next few months for them - can't say just what or when - but I think they will just have to keep on their toes and watch for them.

My brother FRED CAMPBELL (>69) is living with his wife, Sharon, in Dallas. Fred just passed his broker's exam and has opened his own real estate business. Sharon is a paralegal with a Dallas law firm and also has her real estate license. Congratulations Bro - Way to Go!!

I still work as a paralegal in a small law firm in Boca Raton - keeping busy with Kelly and his activities. I baby sit for my grandsons and usually have lunch with my girlfriends during the day. Danny and I try to get out once in a while, however his schedule is very unpredictable we just usually do things on the spur of the moment. Makes life interesting!

Receiving your letters still gives me a thrill. I love hearing from all of you and what you and your family are doing. By the tone of your letters, you like the same thing. I picked up a couple of new names this go around and hope to be able get this out to everyone in time for summer. I also have made copies of all of my newsletters and if anyone would like a combined copy of them I will mail it to you for the price of postage ($2.90). Also, if you would like a copy of the mailing list for any reason or just want someone's address just let me know. Just keep the cards and letters coming and I look forward to hearing from you in November/December before the next newsletter. Remember December 15th is the deadline so get those Christmas cards out to me early.

MYSTERIES OF LIFE TO PONDER: Why do kids tattle on each other for the least little unimportant thing, and protect each other in deepest secrecy on the issues that parents REALLY need to know? How do you teach people the location of the trash can and laundry room? Would kids EVER clean their rooms without being asked? Why do kids bring heavy book bags home and leave them in the middle of the kitchen floor and have no homework? Why does everything cost so much? Are there some players who are really allergic to playing defense? Does sibling rivalry ever end? Why will a non-meat eater devour a McDonald's hamburger? Is ketchup a vegetable? Will we ever consent to leave our children alone in the house for a weekend? How is sick child miraculously healed when he gets invited to the movies? Why can't you find those things you put in a special place so you'd remember where they are?

These and other questions were posed at the end of Janet Watkins' last letter. If anyone has the answers please contact her directly.

Love,
GLORIA >65
