This is going to be a long newsletter. I received lots of cards and letters and newspaper articles. I thank you all for that. This has been some year -- for all of us and for me personally. A lot of RoHawks have been really busy. From Carl Meade going u p in space to all those Ro-Hawks that were a part of Desert Shield/Storm to those of us here at home who supported the United States in our own special way. I didn't know any of us were over there - I suspected - but didn't know. I wrote to my girlfriend's son, Paul, who was stationed on the USS Cayuga (Navy) Paul ended up writing to my son, Kelly's third grade class and they adopted him as their "own special soldier". Paul came back after 9 months at sea and he took time to speak to the class and meet the kids. He ended up staying three hours that morning. It was a real special time for the children. Paul has gone back to the ship, hopefully not to sea duty for a long time. He has put in for transfer to flight school. Someone should talk to that boy.

I received a post card from Turkey from
RON BERGQUIST. Ron was in Turkey during Desert Shield/Storm. He was the Director of Intelligence for a task force which carried our air operations against Northern Iraq. Ran is a full Colonel and is now back in Germany where he is stationed. He told me that while in Turkey he worked with a Major named Rod Matte who graduated from RHS in 1972 or 1976. Ron was also quoted extensively in the September 17, 1990 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology (page 113) an article entitled "Analysis Indicates Iraqi Air Force Weak on Innovation, CAS Role". We are sorry to hear that Ron's mother passed away recently.

COL. BILL FITZPATRICK flew B-52s against Iraq from Diego Garcia where he was Vice Wing Commander. Bill was just transferred to Maine before the War to Loring AFB. Still not too sure of Laring's future. I hear from Bi1l's parents that Bill is back from the war with lots of stories to tell. Welcome back guys.

Welcome back to all the other people who were involved with the war effort and hopeful soon return for those of us that are still over in that area. Please let me know who you are.

My father sent me some information he caught in the Air Force Times. There is an organization regarding overseas school and alumni organizations; For information you can write to: OVERSEAS BRATS, P.O. BOX 298O5, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78229.

DID YOU KNOW The Randolph High School theater department has received a Continuous Affiliation Award from the International Thespian Society for 25 years of continuous membership with ITS.

FROM READERS DIGEST - "My mother had tried every diet advertised with no success. Then I noticed that Mom wasn't eating, and on top of that she was exercising like crazy. Asking her what new program had inspired her, she tossed me an envelope to open. The letter inside read: You are cordially invited to your 20th class reunion.@

Kris sent me several newspaper articles about RHS and the area. Enjoy these articles very much and it enables me to keep up and pass this information along to you. So if you see anything anyone would be interested in please send it along to me. Thanks. One of the articles contained a story about Carl Meade's space flight with quotes from alumnus BRUCE CANNON. Bruce is the Randolph Middle School Principal. The article goes into showing that you can do whatever you want to do. One display in the middle school 's hallway shows an artist's depiction of a space-walking astronaut and is headlined "Our Ro-Hawk pride is alive!".

Also the Ro-Hawks closed out last year's football season with a 22-14 loss to the Cuero Gobblers in an area championship game. The RoHawks ended the regular season with an undefeated 10-0 record, the first district and bi-district championships since 1986 and an overall 11-1 record! (The Gobblers ????)

Well, we are down to me. This has been a big year for me. I became a grandmother. Grandson, Stevie is 17 months old now and of course is the brightest, cutest kid in the world. Also on June 22nd my daughter, Allison, got married to Travis Denson. It was a whirlwind romance and culminated in a marriage ceremony after 5 weeks. I was her "Matron" of Honor and my husband, Danny gave her away. My son, Kyle video taped the ceremony. (Kyle is not the best video tapist but did his best and kept focusing an one of the guests in the church that had on a very low-cut dress) . Oh to be 21 again! Allison, Travis and Stevie have settled down in a little home close not far from us. Allison is working in a day care center. Mark and Kyle still work with Chuck and live in Ft. Lauderdale (30 minutes away). My husband, Danny, just got a new job working at a Lexus dealership a few weeks ago and I am still at the same law firm as a paralegal. Our son, Kelly will be 9 years old in a few weeks. He is going to the YMCA summer camp this year and will be in fourth grade. Kelly is into basketball, karate and soccer. Danny, Kelly and I are planning a trip to Washington, DC this August. We will be in town an August 13th. If you are going to be in DC or near there (and I know who you are) please contact me before that time so we can get together. Danny and I have been talking about going to Washington DC for several years (it has been a dream of Danny's). My family was stationed there in 1963. So this is it. Danny and I will celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary September 15th. We are hoping to renew our vows in t he church (we were married in our home before a Notary Public) and have the MOTHER OF ALL PARTIES! You are invited. If you can't come in person - Call us.

I am hoping all is well with you. I know some of you are experiencing bad times unemployment, illness the war and recession has hurt a lot of us. Some of us were not doing too well before ail the troubles began. Sometimes we think we are the only ones affected. I don't want to sound like "Pollyanna" but you can't just feel sorry for yourself. Take stock in your life. Just being alive is enough. Having the love of your family and having faith in God can carry you through. If you don't have family, you have all of US. As long as I am alive, you have a friend. Thank you to all who wrote me and I hope to hear from more of you before December. Have a great year!
