Merry Christmas + Happy New Year
Dear Friends-
Did you miss me? I've been busy... I was out trying to get a few "Tickle Me Elmos" for my grandsons!!! We have been fine - just busy like everyone else.
Kelly has been surfing everyday after school; Dan's been working/golfing/fishing/boating - mowing the lawn, etc.; I've been working overtime, taking care of the grandchildren, driving up to Jacksonville to see Allison; "doing lunch" and going to the movies with my friends.
We added two more to our family this year....Allison had another son on Mother's Day, May 12th. His name is JOHN MASON (we call him Mason) - However, his other grandpa (Grandpa John) calls him Johnny. Then July 28th, my son Kyle and his wife had another son, ANTHONY TAYLOR JEAN (Tony). So that brings the total number of grandsons to FIVE - no girls in there at all. STEPHEN is 6 1/2, COLE is 4 1/2, DYLAN is 20 months, MASON is 7 months and little TONY is 4 1/2 months. Allison is still in Jacksonville, working full time for a lawyer, taking care of her three sons, still nursing the baby part time, makes her own baby food (where did she learn how to do all that?) Mark is in the Air Force - he got through basic at Lackland AFB and is now stationed at Hurlburt Field in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida (It's a part of Eglin AFB). He's very happy and is talking about making the Air Force a career. Our other son Kyle is dealing with life as a new father of two boys under 2 and needless to say - has been stressed out.
Kelly is 14 1/2 now and is a freshman in high school - he's a member of the concert band (he says he can play the saxophone - but I've never heard him play a whole song) - he also doodles on his electric guitar and is a member of the surf club at school. I think he's somehow going to find a way to permanently be at the beach. He's taller and lankier - has bleached his hair - Yeah, we should make it out alive OK this year !! :)
Danny and I celebrated our 18th anniversary in September, still in the same house, same town, same state - boy is this a novel idea or what? I never lived in one place before longer than 3 years!!! I still move the furniture around once every so often just to make me feel like I've moved.
May you have health, wealth and prosperity in 1997. God Bless You.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Danny, Gloria and Kelly

PERSONALS:
First of all, thank you to all who wrote me and sent donations in 1996 - I really want to hear from you and share what you allow me to with all our friends - Or the "just for my eyes only" information. I would like to tell you how much I appreciate your letters - I also appreciate the donations for stamps and printing. I thought about not doing the newsletter and just stopping - but when I started getting the Christmas cards this year I just couldn't stop. So since my time has been somewhat strained at the moment, I intend to do the newsletter once a year - hopefully around Christmas - I have plenty of funds for future newsletters - so I'll just keep on as long as I can as long as I hear from you. Address changes are only good for one year - so if you move and don't notify me - I'll lose you - so please keep me on your change of address list. Please note that my area code has changed to 561.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES:
The first item I would like to mention is the passing of MIKE BROWN - October, 1995 - Class of 1966. Before Mike died he wrote me with exciting news that he had become a grandpa - his daughter Michelle had a daughter, Amanda, in January 1995. His daughter Jean got married in July and Mike was there for the wedding. I know those of you that knew Mike will be saddened to hear this - but Mike's mom tells me that Mike really enjoyed life even though he had been ill - and from the letters I received I know how much he loved his three daughters and his new granddaughter. We'll miss you Mike - another star is shining above.
So many of you are now On-Line with one service or the other. I'm hoping you will keep in touch with me through that avenue. I have communicated electronically with:
GARY ERICKSON (LOGOMORPH@aol.com) who has thrilled me with his fishing stories. Gary is still in San Francisco in law enforcement - and writing a fly fishing newsletter and freelance consulting.
BILL BORELLIS (BBORELLIS@aol.com) - Bill had a scare when one of his daughters (Jade) and her friend got caught in a rip current on off the coast of San Diego. Thankfully, they were saved and all ended happily. Bill is still working hard with the LA School District and his insurance business.
EARL DODGION (dodgion@rmii.com) - who has delighted me with his stories about snow skiing, commercial real estate ventures, his teenage sons sports triumphs, and intrigued me with son Troy's experiences in learning to drive (an experience I will relive in a few short months); his beer and Bar-B-Que parties - Reading Earl's descriptions of the changing seasons of Colorado is mesmerizing - kinda makes me want to move there!!! NOT - what, am I crazy - it's 80 degrees outside here....!!!!!
JANET FRANCIS JEWETT MURILLO (recently back to JEWETT) (JJewett775@aol.com) - Janet has moved back to San Antonio - she's near her parents and her sister SUSAN. Janet's parents have had some serious health problems - Dad with pneumonia and her mom with a major heart attack. All is well now. Janet has a new grandson, IAN ROBERT who joins little sister JENNIFER. Janet is still in the nursing business and works in the home health area. P.S. SUSAN is still in San Antonio and teaching.
JILL WAGNER PORTER (JILLMOM@aol.com) - Jill's son is 18 and is a freshman at Berkeley and her daughter is 14 and in high school. They live in LA - but travel to Australia where most of their business is located.
LYNN MILLS (our "Miss Kosh") (lmills@tenet.edu) - still teaching math, working on spifing up her home with new carpet and paint; her youngest daughter is in her second year of college, middle daughter will be getting married in April and oldest daughter will be getting married next June 1998. Needless to say, she's sorta busy....
ANN DORMAN WEDDLE (aweddle@tenet.edu) - Ann is still with the San Antonio school district - her daughter, Mandy, graduated from college and has tried out her hand being a nanny and may get into teaching, son, Tres, is working at Starbucks. Ann and her husband will celebrate their 28th anniversary in April.
GAIL STEED McILHANY (GailMcil@aol.com) Gail has been studying her family roots - researching records in the courthouses and finding a connection to an ancestor who come over to America from England in 1680. Their son, Charlie, lives in Fairfax, VA and works as a title examiner for the VA Dept. of Transportation.
JANET WATKINS JENDRON (jjendron@scsn.net) - Janet's correspondence is always interesting - with four kids, a full time job and a bewildered husband - how could it not? She is working for the state Assistive Technology Project (South Carolina) - and she is still on the Board of Directors of the La Leche League and still travels on speaking engagements for the league.
DOUG GREENLEAF (74627.2770@CompuServe.com) or (DJG@MFG1.TRACOR.COM) - In the beginning of 1996 Doug's mother passed away. Doug has been working on his house near Austin and he's doing the work himself.
TERRY (Go Gators) SMILJANICH (Tsmiljan@aol.com) - Terry enjoyed several trips this year - mostly up to their "country" home in Gainesville, one to D.C., Hiltonhead, SC, New York - some business and some pleasure and some following the #1 Ranked College Team - The Gators! around - working hard and winning cases.
JANIS RIMMER MUSKE (muske@bihs.net) - Janis and her family are pretty much ensconced in College Station - Their son, Richard will graduate from high school this year and daughter, Susan is 14 and a freshman in high school. Jan is teaching math at College Station Junior High and husband Bill is in his third year as a pastor of Parkway Baptist Church.
CAROL TURNIPSEED HABERLE (HABERLE@MSN.com) - Carol is showing great strength and spirit although she is suffering with Multiple Sclerosis. Now with her e-mail address you have no excuse to not contact her.

CHUCK PECHULS has been hard at work - he still has his furniture refinishing business that he is trying to wind down. At the moment he is building out what he hopes will be the new "in" place to go around his neighborhood "where everyone knows your name" - an English type Pub in the Lauderhill area of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Chuck is also busy doing parties and clubs as "Chaz" singing the songs that we all love to hear. Chuck plans to do his gig full time at his new Pub.
SHARON MOORHEAD WOODS still loves her job at Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA); daughter Alexis is going to school in Tallahassee. Sharon's Dad, Jesse, had bypass surgery in June - is doing great and still playing golf.

It was very good to hear from DELORES BEIGHTOL - her and her daughters have finally moved to Rockdale, TX - Delores is teaching, daughter, Julie is going to Texas A&M and Amy entered Blinn college. She is enjoying being near her family at last and feels good to be "back home".

Husband, Butch is working for the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management; daughter Melissa is a Junior at the Air Force Academy, daughter Jody is at Texas Tech. THANK YOU for another great year of support - I hope this letter brings you news of those you may remember fondly - Unfortunately, a lot of people passed on in the last few years. I suppose it is something at our age that we should come to expect. It's also a time for us to look inward and ask ourselves if we have done all we can in the first half of our lives. - It's a time to look toward the future with hope and knowledge that we have done our best. It's a time to cherish our friendships, our health, our children, our spouses/significant others and our parents. A time to look to our Higher Power and be thankful that we are alive and basically sane. Thanks again, be well in 1997 - Until next time - HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
Love,
Gloria Jean
